Reverse mortgages written since 18 September 2012 have statutory negative equity protection, so you will never owe more than your home is worth.
How this calculator works
- The maximum loan is indicative: about 20% of the home's value at age 60, rising about 1% for each year of age, up to 45%. Each lender sets its own limits.
- Interest, fees and home price growth compound monthly, and upfront costs are added to the loan.
- Reverse mortgages written since 18 September 2012 carry statutory negative equity protection, so you cannot owe more than the home is worth.
- Interest rates and property values will change over time.
